Our Vision for Grass Fed/ Grain Free Beef
We live on a small farm of about 100 acres between Pauls Valley and Ada. As we raised our 7 children here, we began to see the importance of a healthy lifestyle and diet. Over the years, as we have gained new insight, that diet has changed. Several years ago, due to some health issues in a few of our children and ourselves, we discovered that we were, like a lot of Americans, suffering from inflammation which was at the root of our health problems. Although we had been gardening for years, ate eggs from our own chickens and occasionally raised and butchered our own chickens, we now began to see the dangers of grains in our diet and in the diet of our animals. About 8 years ago, we bought our first angus cows and thus began our journey into raising and finishing out steers on grass (or grass hay) only. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it has been a rewarding one! Earlier this month two of us went to the doctor to get the results of our annual blood tests. As has been the case for several years, our inflammation markers were extremely low and our omega 3 to omega 6 levels were equal. That is definitely not something that we saw in our blood work in the beginning. We are convinced that beef raised and finished on grass are lower in Omega 6 than beef raised on grain which makes cattle with less inflammation and those who eat the meet from those animals less inflamed.
